Semaglutide is a long-acting dosage form developed based on the basic structure of liraglutide, and its effect in the treatment of type 2 diabetes is better.

Semaglutide is a long-acting glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) analog, an agonist of GLP-1 receptor, and has potential therapeutic efficacy for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Semaglutide is a peptide hormone naturally present in the human body with multiple biological activities and medical applications.  It mainly exerts its effects by regulating cell physiological processes such as cell proliferation, cell apoptosis, cell differentiation and cell migration.

The main uses of semaglutide are as follows:

Breast cancer diagnosis: 1a-Domain, a derivative of semaglutide, can be labeled and selectively bind to breast cancer cells in vivo, thus being used for early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer.

Tumor imaging: Semaglutide can be combined with radioactive isotopes or fluorescent dyes for molecular imaging of tumors and imaging treatment navigation.

The synthesis of semaglutide can be achieved by solid phase synthesis or liquid phase synthesis.  In solid phase synthesis, protected amino acid synthesis units are used to gradually build peptide chains on the solid phase.  Then, the amino acid protecting groups are removed by deprotection reaction to obtain the target peptide.  Liquid phase synthesis usually connects the synthesized peptide chain to a carrier molecule and performs a step-by-step ethyl esterification or acylation reaction.  There are also some other synthesis methods, such as chemical liquid phase synthesis and chemical synthesis, etc., and the appropriate method can be selected according to specific needs.
